INTERNET SAFETY: QUARTER 2

This week we are studying Internet Safety. Did you see the results of the Internet safety quiz we took a few weeks ago? (Hint: The questions and answers are on my wall in the hallway.) It's scary what kids do not know.

Mrs. Johns, the Technology Lab Instructor at Inman, was concerned about those results, too. So she had her sixth graders create Internet safety presentations to help you learn more about being safe online.  You are going to watch those and then take a quiz to see what you learned.

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Watch each Internet safety presentation below (under RESOURCES).
  2. Make sure you "get it" before clicking on the next one.
  3. Watch each presentation several times if you need to.
  4. When you are ready to take the Internet Safety quiz, click on the link below.

MANGA MATH MYSTERIES

Look at the title of this post. Can you guess what our next investigation will be?

I bet you figured it out.

We will be reading, writing and solving a problem using math, comics and technology. It will be fun and you will learn a lot.

Perimeter is something that you will use all your life. You know the fence in your backyard? Well, that is the perimeter of your backyard.

If I draw a square and then trace my finger around the edges of the square. That is the perimeter of the square. Got it?

Don't worry. You will.

When you are done reading this, come to the front.

See you there, super heroes!

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS SUMMER?

One student asked that we use technology to talk about our summer vacation. Great idea! We will be writing in our Technology Journals over the next few weeks and crafting some nice writings regarding our summer vacations.

We will also focus on our spelling and vocabulary using Education Place. Let's get started! The first things we need to learn are:
  • How to save a document
  • How to write a draft
Then we will learn about Internet safety, revising our writing, editing our writing, and then publishing our stories.

Oh yeah, we are going to blog, too. Boo Yah!

For the Week of January 20

Welcome, Third Grade!

Today we will be putting the finishing touches on our Martin Luther King, Jr. Power Point slide.

We will NOT be adding "designs" or "backgrounds" to the slide. Why do you think we are not adding these items?

Your slide needs to have:

1-Date
2-What happened/where it happened

3-photograph

4-website (or computer program) where you are borrowing the photograph from

5-voice over narrating your slide

When you are finished with your slide (or if you're waiting for a microphone), you may visit these links:
National Geographic "Creature Feature"
Give a Dog a Bone!

For the Week of January 12

Welcome, Third Graders!

Today we will be working to create a slide for a class powerpoint about Martin Luther King, Jr.

FIRST, we'll get a piece of paper with a date listed on it to research: What happened in his life on this date that was so important?

SECOND, we'll use this link: MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. to find out!

THIRD, we'll WRITE down what happened on that piece of paper.

FOURTH, we'll open up POWER POINT to begin creating ONE slide for that date.

We'll be doing all kinds of things to our slide:

adding an important date and event

photographs
citing the website where you found the photograph
adding voice over to your slide (if you have time) using the microphone

When you finish, you will need to save the ONE slide to your teachers folder in a file called, "Martin Luther King."

Below are a few links where you may want to look for photos:

1. The King Center - hear his famous, "I have a dream..." speech

2. Wikipedia - MLK - read about MLK/find information

3. Civil Rights Museum

4. Scholastic's Site - many links for MLK

5. Virutal Tour of Martin Luther King's home

6. MLK Biography (has advertisements)

7. MLK Timeline (has advertisements)

8. MLK Biography
